Call for papers: "Lean, Agile, Resilient and Green Supply Chain Management"

For a special issue of the International Journal of Advanced Operations Management.

In modern business environments, an effective supply chain management is crucial to business continuity. Lean, agile, resilient and green paradigms are advocated as the foundation of a competitive supply chain management. To make a supply chain more competitive, capable of responding to the demands of customers with agility and capable of responding effectively to unexpected disturbance, in conjugation with environmental responsibilities and the necessity to eliminate processes that add no value, companies must implement a set of new practices and key performance indicators to measure their influence on the supply chain performance. However, the selection of the best supply chain management practices and key performance indicators is a complex problem, involving dependencies and feedbacks. For example, the practice just-in-time is advocated by the lean paradigm; however, it will promote a higher number of material deliveries, which will, cause the increase of CO2 emission, compromising the objectives of green paradigm.

This special issue of invites papers covering recent novel studies on the four paradigms simultaneously or just a subset (e.g. lean or resilient-green). We are especially interested in theoretical and empirical studies with appropriate theoretical underpinnings on. Analyses can be conducted based in methods such as optimisation models, empirical studies, case studies, events studies, simulations, etc.

The issue will carry revised and substantially extended versions of selected papers presented at the 47th International Conference on Computers and Industrial Engineering (CIE47), but we also strongly encourage researchers unable to participate in the conference to submit articles for this call.

Suitable topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Trade-offs among lean, agile, resilient and green paradigms
  • Relationships among LARG practices and the supply chain capabilities
  • Performance models for lean, agile, resilient and green supply chains
  • The impact of lean, agile, resilient and green paradigms on supply chain sustainability
  • Benchmarking lean, agile, resilient and green supply chains
  • Proposal innovative business models integrating this set of paradigms
  • Integration of lean, agile, resilient and green paradigms with current industry trends such as Industry 4.0, eco-innovation, eco-efficiency, circular economy, entrepreneurship in business ecosystems, among others
